נושא עבודת הדוקטורט: שימוש בקונכיות כעדיים בקרב אוכלוסיות נקק"ב (PPNB) באיזור הים-תיכוני של דרום הלבנט

תקציר: בעבודה זו ביצעתי מחקר ארכיאומלקולוגי על מכלולי קונכיות מאתרים ארכיאולוגיים בני התקופה הניאוליתית הקדם קירמית ב', מאזורי האקלים הים-תיכוני בדרום הלבנט. תכלית המחקר היתה לבחון את תפקידיהן של קונכיות, ובמיוחד חרוזים מקונכיות, כאמצעי לייצוג עצמי, חברתי ותרבותי בקונטקסטים שונים. המחקר הקיף אספקטים טקסונומיים, טאפונומיים וטכנולוגיים, על ידי שימוש בשיטות מאקרו- ומיקרוסקופיות לזיהוי סימני עיבוד ושימוש, ניתוח מרחבי ועוד. קשרים בין אוכלוסיות, כמבוססים על שימושים דומים ובחירות דומות בטיפוסי קונכיות וטיפוסי חרוזים, נבחנו על ידי שימוש במגוון אנליזות רבות-משתנים ושיטות סטטיסטיות שונות. התוצאות מדגישות כי ניתן להגדיר ולהבחין בין אוכלוסיות בלבנט בהתבסס על הבחירות המלקולוגיות שלהן, אך במקביל, שתוחזקו קשרים ענפים בין האוכלוסיות. מבנה מערכות היחסים האיזוריות פורש כ"מעגלי התייחסות מתרחבים" שהשפיעו על מערך הזהויות החברתיות של האנשים הניאוליתיים ועל המעבר לאורח חיים ניאוליתי.
